I'm a very experienced English teacher with the highest professional standards.
My key principles:
I create personalised learning activities to suit each student.
I give parents feedback about their child’s progress after each session.
I look for every opportunity for praise!
I have a degree in English from University of London Royal Holloway College, and a PGCE in English and Drama from the University of Bath.
I am a trained AQA GCSE English and Literature examiner and KS2 SATs marker.
My teaching experience
I have taught English for over 25 years, working with students from Year 6 through to Year 13, and across the full ability range. I have worked in inner city schools and schools in rural areas.
As Head of English in two schools, I have been responsible for the delivery of GCSE and A level Language and Literature exam syllabuses. I am a trained AQA GCSE English Language examiner.
I have been an Assistant Headteacher and a whole school Literacy Coordinator, and in the classroom, I have been assessed as an ‘outstanding’ English teacher.
I have taught literacy summer schools for KS2 pupils, holiday revision programmes for GCSE and A level students and delivered one-to-one English tuition to all ages.
What I do
Having left the classroom, I now provide home schooling, one-to-one tutoring and support for individual students and small groups.
Children miss school due to ill health or school anxiety; some are affected by changes to family circumstances while others miss schooling due to participation in elite sport or performance arts. Some families choose to home educate their children. Whatever your child’s individual needs, I can offer personalised help and expert English tuition when it matters.
I also offer literacy training to teachers and creative writing workshops to adults. I write for websites, publish short stories and poetry and I'm currently writing a Young Adult fantasy novel set in Cornwall.
